Exploration Operations to Be Speeded Up Following the Award of New Contracts for Drilling Rigs and Equipment

Saudi Aramco has just placed orders for drilling rigs and wellhead equipment with Rowan Companies Inc.and three consortia composed of Saudi and foreign companies.Because of the general shortage of rigs and drilling equipment,in 2005 the company started to take steps to ensure its requirements for the future were met,as part of its strategy for increasing its oil production capacity to 12.5 million b/d by 2009 and speeding up its exploration and development activities(AOG,16 Oct.and 1 Dec,2005).Saudi Aramco has also retained BGP Arabia,a subsidiary of the Chinese company BGP International,for the conduct of seismic surveys in the Red Sea and other parts of the country.
