Coal faces new pressure from EPA sulfur rule

Power plants and other US industrial facilities that burn lots of coal may need to install scrubbers or take other steps to cut emissions as states begin to implement tougher air quality standards for sulfur dioxide. Today is the deadline for states to recommend which areas are meeting or not meeting those standards, which the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2010 tightened for the first time in four decades.
