The United Steelworkers union blasted a proposed new labor contract from U.S. Steel Corp., claiming that it demands concessions that would undo decades of hard-won gains. The initial contract proposal from the Pittsburgh-based steelmaker contains deep cuts to health-care benefits for active and retired employees, including the elimination of a retiree medical plan; reduced vacation pay; and more stringent requirements for severance pay, the union said.
