Excessive agchem residue incidences fall in Brazil

There was a fall in the incidences of non-conformity of pesticide residues in fruit and vegetables in Brazilian supermarkets in the first half of 2016, according to a national supermarket association survey. The number of foodstuff samples not conforming dropped from around one in three (34%) to about one in four (27%), the Abras association’s tracing and monitoring programme, the Rama, found. Non-conformity includes the presence of unauthorised pesticides for use on a particular crop, residues above permitted levels on approved crops, and a combination of both.
