S&W to buy DuPont Pioneer’s alfalfa business

The US seed company, S&W Seed (Five Points, California), has agreed to acquire DuPont seed subsidiary DuPont Pioneer’s non-genetically modified alfalfa (lucerne) seed business and related assets for up to $42 million. It has also agreed, subject to certain conditions, to purchase DuPont Pioneer’s GM alfalfa germplasm for a further $7 million, valuing the whole transaction at some $49 million. The non-GM alfalfa acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of this year, with the GM alfalfa transaction scheduled to close on December 29th 2017.
