Volumes rise as prices plunge for Chinese agrochemical exports in 2009

Chinese agrochemical exports increased in volume but declined in value in 2009, reports the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture's Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals (ICAMA). The Institute gave an overview of the export market to attendees at the China International Agrochemical and Crop Protection Exhibition in Shanghai last month. China exported over 1 million tonnes of agrochemicals (calculated by physical quantity), according to unofficial ICAMA figures compiled from individual transaction bills, which have not been ratified by Chinese customs authorities. That represents an increase of 3.6% on the previous year and accounted for 96.5% of overall pesticide trade volumes. Exports were valued at $4,177 million, down 35.7% on 2008, accounting for 92.5% of total trade value.
