Microalgae are considered to be promising production organisms for biomass and specific high value compounds. Currently the commercial use is limited by the yield efficiencies, extraction of sensitive products and high process costs. Intensive research efforts are needed to tap the full potential in the direction of optimized growth parameters and operating conditions. It is well known that the growth of algae is a function created by many factors and light is one of the main influencing parameters.The investigation of different photoperiods is necessary to determine the most efficient regime for an industrial use of microalgae products.
