Intercropping Coriander under Cashew Scion Bank as an Organic Practice

Keeping in mind the importance of organically produced coriander as well as intensifying the cultivation under the cashew scion bank, a field experiment was conducted on intercropping of coriander at the Regional Research Station, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV), Jhargram, West Midnapur West Bengal during 2008 and 2009. The cultivar of coriander was 'Rajendra Swati' and the cultivar of cashew taken for scion bank was 'Jhargram-1'.The experiment was laid out in Randomised Block Design comprising of four treatments, with three replications. The sources of organic manure were vermicompost (T|), farm yard manure (T2), and poultry manure (T3) (all were applied at 5 t/ha as soil application). The age of the cashew scion bank is four years. The scheduled management practices for cashew were followed in regular basis. Experimental observations were recorded on plant height (cm), stem girth at collar zone (cm), plant spread (cm), numberof umbels per plant, first flowering, duration of flowering, number of umbels per plant, number of flowers per plant, seed yield (g) per plant, yield per treatment and yield per ha. As per the experimental result maximum plant height was recorded in T3 (79.65 cm) followed by Tj (68.20 cm). Maximum plant spread was seen in T3 (26.13 cm) followed by T2 (16.25 cm). Earliest flowering was noticed in T3 in both of the years. T3 was also found best in case of number of umbels per plant (67.53) and seed yieldper treatment (298.57 g). Projected seed yield per ha was calculated highest in T3 (186.61 kg/ha) usually. Second highest production of seed was recorded in Ti, 228.3 g per treatment and 142.68 kg per ha. So, at the end of the experiment it can be concluded that plants nourished by poultry manure (T3) found the best treatment among four treatments.
