Supply chain management is an integral component of any business, but in the chemical industry it comes with several additional challenges - all the more so in India. The safe movement of hazardous chemicaJs -both raw materials and derived goods - usually from one industrial location to another is fraught with many difficulties, much of it related to the poor quality of infrastructure such as roads, ports etc., but also with management practices within companies. While progressive companies are spending considerable resources in trying to address the problems posed, a vast majority of supply chain managers keep their fingers crossed and hope things pan out as expected without any adverse impacts. Sooner or later, their luck will run out.
