Reckitt Benckiser group looks at India as a global pharma sourcing centre

While describing the importance of India to the erstwhile British rulers, Niall Ferguson[1] thought that India was not just a "Jewel in the Crown" for the Kingdom but "a whole diamond mine". British consumer goods major Reckitt Benckiser Group (RBG) seems to share this belief. RBG bought a fast growing Indian start-up Paras Pharmaceuticals (Paras) for a staggering Rs. 32.60-bn (about US$726-mn) in December 2010[2] which other pharmaceutical majors of the world were also bidding for. RBG now plans to convert the Bad-di plant, which it got as a part of Paras, into a global hub for manufacturing over-the-counter (OTC) pharmaceutical products.
