Borealis is still trying to restart its steam cracker at Stenungsund, Sweden, following a planned turnaround that had been scheduled to conclude on 19 October. As a result of the delay, the company has de-clared force majeure on its cracker products, Borealis says. The company does not have an exact date when normal operations at Stenungsund will resume. The delay at Stenungsund is further reducing Europe's ethylene supply, which has been constrained recently by various planned and unplanned outages. A planned outage at the LyondellBasell Industries' cracker at Miinch-rminster, Germany, had been scheduled to last through the first half of October, but the plant has not restarted, IHS Chemical understands. The delayed restart of Dow Chemical's cracker at Bohlen, Germany, cut supply in that part of the country, and the impact has been exacerbated by an ongoing outage at Unipetrol's cracker at Litvinov, Czech Republic, IHS Chemical says. Further operational issues have impacted Dow's system, including a week-long outage at the company's Tarragona, Spain, cracker, IHS Chemical adds.
