Conditions of arc strip surfacing, which provide a minimum discard of the deposited metal as a result of subsequent machining are considered. Results of the work done at PGTU on making surfacing consumables to provide the deposited layer with meta-stable austenite reinforced with hardening phases and realize the effect of self-hardening under loading have been generalized. The above effect is caused by transformation of austenite into martensite under loading during the wearing process.
