Coral symbionts are believed to provide their hosts a protective role for their coral hosts through the production of some compounds, a considerable number of which display promising biological properties [1, 2]. Natural products isolated from coral-derived microorganisms are being rapidly developed but still have not reached their potential climax [3]. As part of an overall increase in interest in coral-derived organisms, the upswing in study of coral-derived fungi is particularly noticeable, and interest in coral-derived bacteria and actinomycete has been relatively constant [4]. In a continuation of our studies on coral-derived fungi [5-8], the fungus Aspergillus sp. (TA01-14) derived from gorgonian Carijoa sp. (GX-WZ-2010001) attracted our attention because the EtOAc extract showed good antibacterial activity against a panel of pathogenic bacteria. The extract was subject to column chromatography on silica gel and Sephadex LH-20.
