摘要

A fast-motion-estimation (ME) algorithm called a "modified breaking-off-search (MBOS) was developed and used with a hierarchical ME search. It can improve processing speed of the full-search method with a hierarchical ME algorithm by a factor of 21. The ME array chip was designed using O.6-μm CMOS technology. The power dissipation of the chip using the MEOS algorithm with the hierarchical ME search at 94.5 MHz and 2.5 V was reduced to 82mW which was less than 1/33 of that of the full-search.
