Cherry tree cultivation fell from 30-35 (1965) to 3% (present time) of total fruit tree cultivation in Russia. This is mainly due to fungal diseases (caused by several pathogens including Monilia), and changes in environmental conditions and climate. As a result of hybridization of cv. Zolushka with Prunus maackii, several rootstocks (VP-1, OVP-2, OVP-3) with increased resistance to Monilia and other fungal diseases were obtained. Data on rooting and segregation of hybrids obtained using these rootstocks and various cultivars are tabulated. Further research allowed the production of rootstocks V-2-180, V-2-230, V-5-88 and V-5-172 (VladimirskayaxVP-1), which were included in the Russian Register of breeding achievements. In a separate study, hybridization of P. cerasus with P. serrulata (hybrids 74363, 82984, 82986 and 74331), P. incisa (hybrids 83088) and P. sachalinensis (hybrid 74361) was investigated.
