RR Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is one of the most common complications of allogeneic stem cell transplantation (ASCT). The curative potential of ASCT in diseases such as leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, and lymphoma relies in part on the graft-versus-leukemia response (GVL), the unique capability of donor-derived immunocompetent cells to eliminate cancer cells.1 However, a similar immunologic attack can take place against healthy recipient tissues, resulting in GVHD.
