Digital printing is next-generation printing that handles numerous printing images, giving them high photograph-level resolution. In the IT era, images are transferred over networks, requiring image compression. Current compression was developed for facsimile images and does not provide a good enough compression ratio for digital printing, whose features differ from those of facsimile images. We propose using a genetic algorithm to search for the optimum compression algorithm for each part of an image. It provides robust compression independent of image features with a compression ratio 40 percent higher than that of conventional images, verifying the methods applicability.
