United States Steel LLC is launching Straightline Source, a distribution chain that USS claims will be the first "to serve customers of all sizes who do not typically but directly from steel producers."Straightline will draw heavily on U.S. Steel's "recognized leadership in supply chain technology," apparently referring to the USX Engineers & Consultants subsidiary and its UECIT division-which develops and retails software and computer platforms for companies to manage order fulfillment, production scheduling, and various other supply-chain functions.
