The technology of near net shaping of beam blanks: basic regularities and examples of the equipment

Near net shaping of beam blanks has the same advantages in manufacturing the large and medium special sections and H-beams, as thin slab casting in sheet production, i.e. lower rolling cost, higher productivity, lower power consumption. Beam blank casting is thereby an excellent alternative to the conventional technological route of bloom continuous casting for manufacturing of H-beams and other special sections. The paper describes fundamental aspects of designing the beam blank casting facilities (BB) and presents some other examples of the equipment supplying by VAI.
