Semen production of meat-type boars and line PIC-37 boars in different seasons.

Data were obtained on 39 boars at a large pig farm near Moscow. For Duroc, Landrace and line PIC-37 boars respectively, ejaculate volume averaged 208.2, 311.4 and 385.2 ml in winter, 205.1, 298.2 and 354.0 ml in spring, 200.0, 279.9 and 351.2 ml in summer and 195.1, 283.3 and 344.7 ml in autumn, breed and seasonal differences being mostly significant. Sperm motility ranged from 7.93 to 8.00 points in all seasons, seasonal differences being mostly non-significant. Sperm concentration (x107/ml) averaged 181.8, 172.0 and 157.9 in winter, 201.6, 166.4 and 181.4 in spring, 234.6, 207.8 and 171.6 in summer and 221.4, 201.3 and 155.0 in autumn, some breed and seasonal differences being significant.
