Qatar completed its monumental cycle of liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure expansion when it started up the seventh train of the Qatargas IV project in March, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported. The Persian Gulf nation is the world's largest LNG exporter. It has the world's third-largest gas reserves (behind Russia and Iran) with 896 Tcf (25 × 10~(12) m~3) as of Jan. 1, 2011. The seventh train can process 80 Bcfy (2.26 × 10~9 m~3/yr), which will bring Qatar's LNG export capacity to 375 Tcfy (106 × 10~9 m~3/yr), Qatari government officials have said no more LNG facilities will be built in the near term and any additional capacity increases would be from improvements/in the existing facilities.
