In this paper, case studies of coastal management carried out while taking into account the well-being of sea turtles are reviewed. Population and property are heavily concentrated near the coast in Japan; thus, the conservations of sea turtle nesting habitat are often incompatible with disaster prevention plan. In the 1990s, attention was given mainly to some parameters necessary for designing beaches, such as the grain size of sand, height and width of the backshore, slope angle of the foreshore. In the 2000s, the removal of wave-dissipating concrete blocks and the landward relocation of the defense line began to be attempted. Although the conservations of the nesting habitat have become more perspective over the past 20 years, the recovery of the shoreline should be attempted by carrying out comprehensive sediment control along the rivers and the coast. Moreover, in the future, the land use plan should be revised from the viewpoint of coastal management.
