Effects of microstructural feature, secondarydendrite arm spacing (DAS II) and defects (mainly porosity) inaluminum alloy die castings ADC1O on tensile properties wereinvestigated. Die castings were made using a 882 kN cold-chamberdie cast machine. The test pieces differed in DAS II and quantity ofporosity. The tensile strength and elongation were especially foundto increase with the decrease in DAS II and quantity of porosity.Fractures include ductile fracture and brittle fracture. The brittlefracture occurred more easily with higher P0rosity or DAS II, andthe ductile fracture with smaller porosity or DAS II. The greaterthe specific gravity was above 2.70, the more excellent the tensilestrength and quality were found to be.
