The effect of the raw material type on crystallization ability of the material and on a number of properties of the refractories is considered. The parameter of pore structure of the refractory is shown to be important. The specific wear of thesteel-casting nozzles can differ by a factor of 1.5-2.5 due to the structure difference of the material at the same Mn content in steel. The region of potential life-time of quartz steel-casting nozzles is determined as a function of Mn content in steel.
