A New Pear Variety: Angelys cov

Angelys is a new pear variety resulting from the cross Doyenne d'Hiver x Doyenne du Cornice. This cross is part of a large breeding programme initiated in 1963 at the INRA Fruit Breeding Research Station with the aim to screen late maturing cultivarswith long storage ability. The female parent, Doyenne d'Hiver is a late ripening variety and the male parent Doyenne du Cornice, is well known for its excellent fruit quality. The tree is medium sized, upright to spreading. Angelys is reciprocally pollencompatible with Williams, Conference, Doyenne du Cornice. In the Loire Valley, the picking time is about 10-15 days after Doyenne du Cornice. The fruit is roundish to ovate; high sized fruits are produced on clusters of 2-3 fruits; fruits have a fine russet over a yellow-green ground colour. The quality is very well appreciated: excellent taste, fine texture, good flavour, juicy, free of stone cells.
