Functional structure, constraints and mental model

摘要

An independent analysis of the JCO criticality accident has been conducted at the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute (Tanabe and Yamaguchi 2000a-e) utilising a framework based on the cognitive systems engineering approach (Rasmussen et al 1994). In the framework (Tanabe et al 1991), analysis is made integrally both from a system viewpoint and the actors' viewpoint. From the system viewpoint, the functional structure of the work system and the system requirements in terms of goal to be achieved are uncovered. On the other hand, from the actors' viewpoint, how the actors perceive the system function and situation is uncovered.
