Generating Potato Varieties with Horizontal Resistance to Late Blight

Within the current breeding scheme of the National Program for Roots and Tubers (PNRT-Potato), one of the objectives is to obtain varieties with durable resistance to the fungus Phytophthora infestans, in this case horizontal resistance as defined byVandcrplank (1963). With the help of the Plant Protection Department, accessions with horizontal resistance free of major genes were identified in the Ecuadorian Potato Collection.
