Towards Sustainable Agriculture in the Red River Basin from the Viewpoint of Land and Water Environment

The present keynote speech attempted to discuss the present situation of land and water environment in the Red River basin in order to establish sustainable agriculture. From this viewpoint, soil and water pollution, fertility decline/soil degradation, and soil erosion are most serious problems. They were briefly discussed based on the results of our previous articles, following the description of the background and some recent issues related to land use and agricultural environment, and finally several countermeasures were proposed towards sustainable agriculture.
