Usefulness of feed management program by body condition score as an index in dairy cow herd

It was established that the penalty was 0 if Body Condition Score (BCS) of milk cow herd existed in the proper range, and that the penalty rose in proportion to deviating extents from the proper range, and that this waas assumed to be BCS penalty (BCS.P) of each individual. Further, the average BCS.P of cow herd was taken as the BCS.P of the cow herd. Jours Moyen Retard (JMR) index was employed for the evaluation of breeding result of the cow herd, and the amount of Adjusted Corrected Milk (ACM) was employed for the evaluation of amount of milk. As the results of survey, a significant and positive correlation (p<0.001) was observed between BCS.P of the cow herd and JMR index, and a significant and negative correlation (p<0.001) was observed between BCS.P of the cow herd and the amount of ACM. Therefore, it was judged that BCS.P would become an index to evaluate the economical ability of the cow herd, and that it was useful in guiding the feed management of cow herd.
