Mechanical Stresses in Cement Rotary Kilns and Their Effects on Refractory Bricks (Causes and Countermeasures for Recent Brick Damages)

In the Technical Committee on Refractories for Cement Kiln held in 2002, Mr. Cox with Phillips Kiln Services presented his paper titled "Mechanical Stresses in the Rotary Kiln and Their Effect on the Refractory Lining". Since then, we have supplied kiln services such as ovality measurement, kiln alignment, and grinding tires and rollers in many rotary units in Japan. Thank you very much for giving us the chance to service your equipment. Based on the results of the above measurements and observations of the units during the services, we found some common issues including brick failures in rotary kilns in Japan. The issues were already solved in some kilns but many kilns are still have issues. We believe several confirmed issues are somewhat unique to in rotary units in Japan.
