The long nozzle used for air sealing of the molten steel between the ladle and tundish in the continuous casting of steel requires resistance to the demands of high-speed casting, a long life, and versatility in casting various kinds of steel. The present paper reports on the development of carbon with high corrosion resistance and reduced-silica long nozzle materials with the purpose of decreasing the corrosion of the internal surface of long nozzle. The results obtained in an actual machine test are also reported.
