It has been assumed that controlling crystallization of mold powder slag film in order to control heat transfer between the mold and the solidified steel shell can achieve improvement of steel quality and increase casting speed on continuous casting process. However the heat transfer mechanism between the mold and the steel shell through the slag film and the contribution mechanism of the crystallization of the slag film has not been clarified. The authors investigated the factors which influence the heat transfer by measuring the thermal diffusivity of slag film with laser flash method.
