摘要

Magnesia-carbon bricks that are widely used as working linings in converters experience continuous heat cycles in field plants. This study investigated the effects of thermal cycles on the corrosion resistance of MgO-C bricks in offline experiments. The apparent porosity increased and the elastic modulus decreased as the number of thermal cycles increased, indicating significant deterioration of the microstructure and degradation of the corrosion resistance of the MgO-C bricks. The microstructure after use in a converter was almost the same as that found in the offline experiments. The results in these experiments were therefore validated by the results from field use, namely the change the microstructure of MgO-C bricks by thermal cycling must be taken into account in the offline evaluation.
