Penetration, Corrosion and Spalling Resistance of MgO-CaO Brick

The penetration resistance, corrosion resistance, and spalling resistance were investigated for bricks made from coexistence MgO-CaO clinker and bricks made from separately added clinkers to determine the most desirable structure for bricks in the MgO-CaO system. The following results were obtained: 1) Penetration resistance was superior with of coexistence clinker system by 30-40 percent. Furthermore, no chemical penetration took place. 2)Corrosion resistance was lowered with increase of CaO content, but considering the oxidation of steel, no large difference was observed in the coexistence and separation systems. 3) Spalling resistance of the coexistence system was superior to the separation system by ca. 2-5 times, but it was somewhat lower compared with that of MgO brick. 4) In the production of MgO-CaO brick, it is better to use the coexistence of MgO-CaO clinker. In that case, a CaO content of 60-80 percent is recommended.
