When 0.5-2.0% Fe_2O_3 was added into a mixture of Al_2O_3 and SiO_2 powder, the temperature of a sample during microwave exposure increased with the concentration of Fe_2O_3. When 0.5-1.5% MnO_2 was added into the Al_2O_3-SiO_2 mixture, the temperature of the sample also increased during the microwave exposure. However, the temperature did not depend much on the concentration of MnO_2 in the range studied. The temperature of Al_2O_3 and SiO_2 mixtures with the addition of both Fe_2O_3 and MnO_2 showed the highest temperature without thermal runaway.
