According to the latest report on the market produced by the US Department of Agriculture's (USDA's) Global Agricultural Information Network (GAIN), production in Kenya is expected to increase to 900,000 bags in marketing year (MY) 2014/2015, due to an ongoing expansion programme by the Kenyan government.The report said increased adoption of improved varieties by farmers, and higher global coffee prices are also expected to boost production and exports. Legal and institutional reforms are also being implemented in the sector. In the last two decades, coffee farming in Kenya has faced severe competition from real estate developments and other enterprises.
