Pretoria learners emerged as victors of this year's national Minquiz~R Science Competition held at Mintek's campus in Randburg on 27 and 28 September 2010. Each member of the winning team walked away with a half-ounce Kruger Rand, sponsored by Rand Refinery Limited and worth about R4 500 each, and their schools received a cash prize of R3 250, sponsored by DCM Deco Metals. The winners competed against more than 50 other finalists, studying Grade 12 Physical Science and Mathematics at school, who had advanced to the national competition following rigorous provincial competitions in July.
