Hypertensive crisis during radiofrequency ablation of the adrenal gland.

Gradually, following selected successful case reports, ra-diofrequency (RF) ablation is now being employed for curative treatment of primary and metastatic adrenal cancers (1). Surgery, either by means of formal laparotomy or a minimally invasive laparoscopic approach, remains the first-line treatment option for primary adrenal carcinomas in patients who are surgically fit. The management of metas-tases involving the adrenal gland, however, is not as well defined and includes surgery, embolization, chemical injection, and ablation. As interest in RF ablation of adrenal tumors continues to grow, interventional radiologists, referring clinicians, and anesthetists must be aware of the potential serious complications associated with this treatment.
