Volcanology and Seismology: 30 years of Journal Publication,1979-2008

The first issue of the "Volcanology and Seismology"Journal of the USSR Academy of Sciences was pub-lished 30 years ago, in January 1979 (1979, no. 1). The180th issue (2008, no. 6) of this journal completed the30th year of its publishing in December 2008. My arti-cle is devoted to this date, which is remarkable for vol-canology in Russia. The history of journal foundationand its successful activity for the first 25 years was con-sidered in the introduction to the first issue and inreports concerned with its 20th and 25th years of pub-lishing [3-5]. In this article I consider the foundationand subject area of the journal activity for 30 years, inmore detail for the last 5 years (2004-2008), on thepresent-day conditions and on the reasons the journalcould be published for such a long period of time.
