B. lanzan Spreng., commonly known as Achar, Chaar or Chironjee is a medium-sized tree , found in deciduous forests almost throughout central India. Its fruits are used as dry fruits and are one of the most economically important NTFPs of the tropicaldeciduous forests of central India. Its present market valuq, is gredter than that of almond. B. lanzan fruits were collected from different regions of Chhattisgarh, central India. Significant variations in fruit weight, kernel size and kernel weight were recorded. Samples collected from Padariya, Kawardha showed maximum kernel weight which corresponds to minimum number of seeds in 100 gm while minimum weight was recorded in Bhilmadhi, Korba (C.G.) samples. Major constituent i.e. oil rangedfrom 42.29-62.57%. Maximum oil (62.57%)was recorded in Pandariya (Kawardha), followed by 59.92% in Kapu, Dharumjaigarh. Minerals i.e. calcium, phosphorus, potassium .magnesium and sodium varied significantly and ranged fromO.28-0.52, 0.038 -0.076,0.10-0.18,0.24-0.46and0.03-0.13 %, respectively. *Due to direct harvesting of economically important parts of tree from natural habitats, genetic resources are facing severe threat of extinction and need immediate conservation efforts.The study contributes knowledge for breeders to use these genotypes to broaden the genetic background or currently available commercial cultivars, or to design production strategies that employ the genotypes directly as the^ raw material.
