Recommendations for prophylaxis of pregnancy-related venous thromboembolism in carriers of inherited thrombophilia. Comment on the 2012 ACCP guidelines

In 2012, the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) revised their recommendations for antithrombotic prophylaxis in pregnant women with prior venous thromboembo-lism (VTE) or inherited thrombophilia [1], producing some important variations in comparison with the 2008 version [2]. Recommendations concerning pregnant women without previous VTE and with thrombophilia are strikingly different from those by other scientific societies. We discuss why we consider some recommendations inappropriate and potentially harmful for some women.
