In 2002, coking battery No. 5 was constructed with furnace chambers of volume 30.3 m~3 to Giprokoks design with bottom input of heating gas and with broad regenerators, and for 12 months it was kept in the cold state. After heating with liquefied propane-butane gas, the battery was introduced into operation on 27 June 2004. The heating and commissioning were performed by the firm of Ogneuporkoksservis Ltd (Moscow) at a high technical and safety level with the use of a technology for heating coking batteries developed in the former USSR (author N. A. Chemarda) and first used for heating coking battery No. 1 at the Iskenderun metallurgical plant in Turkey, and then coking battery No. 1 at the Vizakhapatnam metallurgical plant in India and No. 1 Altai coking and chemical plant. The quality of the heating is indicated by the fact that after heating of the battery that had been in the cold state for two years and loading the ovens, breakthrough of raw gas from the chambers into the heating system and of coking gas into the gas-conducting channels in the regenerators was almost absent. The startup plan was also produced by that firm without any problems in spite of the fact that this battery was the only one working at the plant and should have provision for heating itself.
