In this paper, we have used medical image fusion scheme to derive useful information from multi-modality medical image data. The general objective of image fusion is to combine the complementary information from multimodality images. In this work, we have proposed the different fusion strategies based on Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). The proposed techniques are used to fuse the medical images of two different modalities Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) at a single level and multilevel. The different strategies mentioned in this paper are pixel based, convolution based, gradient based, thresholding, local deviation and multilevel fusion. In order to evaluate the fusion strategies, standard deviation, entropy, overall cross entropy are considered. An effective fusion algorithm integrates all the relevant information as much as possible from different multimodality images. The experimental results show that multilevel fusion is having good performance by evaluation criteria and visual perception.
