摘要

Conventional approach of process and die design are based on heuristics, trial and error and laboratory tryouts. Such approaches not only involves financial burden but also enhances the design time and end with lower efficiency. This study deals with die angle design of square rod extrusion of γ-iron using dynamic materials modelling (DMM). This would lead to dynamic recrystallization (DRX), which results favourable microstructure in the extruded square rod. The γ-iron, due to its brilliant properties like high strength, toughness etc, is used for advanced engineering application and also a common material for bulk metal forming like forging and extrusion. The designed die was further adopted for computer simulation to assess stress, strain and strain rate distributions and load requirements. The expectation of this study would provide a new insight into the design of manufacturing process.
