This paper presents the details on the experimental procedure and measurements made in a three-dimensional confined flow fields behind a V-shaped complex flame stabiliser in an isothermal model of an afterburner. The flame stabiliser consists of a central ring gutter with top and bottom radial gutters concentrically placed on the periphery within a cylindrical pipe. A 5 mm five hole pitot sphere of cobra type has been used along with electronic digital manometers for the measurements. The negative velocity regions are well captured with the five-hole probe near to the gutter. Five-hole pitot probe measurements along the entire length of the model in three different azimuthal planes, allow the determination of three mean velocity components which provide a comprehensive in formation to aid and understand such complex flows. Measurements were repeated several times to ascertain the accuracy since the main aim is to enable the researchers in the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) field to use these data for their predictions.
