摘要

The aim of the study was to investigate the Aloe vera phyto chemical compounds and antimicrobial activity of different extracts. The phytochemical compound screened -by qualitative method. Qualitatively analyzed tannin, saponin, flavonoids and terpenoids gave positive results and phlobatanins and steriods gave negative results. Three different -solvents such as water, efhanol and petroleum ether were used to extract the bioactive compounds from the leaves of Aloe vera to screen the antimicrobial activity on selected human clinical pathogens, Gram positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis), Gram negative bacteria (Escherichia coli , Klebsiella pneumoniae). The disc diffusion method was used to test the antimicrobial activity. The result showed more antimicrobial activity in ethanol extract (6-19 mm). The least inhibitory effect on petroleum ether extracts was 2 mm. Antifungal activity of Aloe vera was analyzed against Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus niger. The maximum antifungal activity was observed in efhanoilc extracts (15mm and 8mm) when compared other extracts. Aloe vera plant extract with ethanol can be used as a potent antimicrobial agents. This is important to use of Aloe vera for medications, cosmetics and food purpose.
