A BIOACTIVE STEROL FROM POLYPORUS GRAMMOCEPHALUS BERK

Mushrooms are large reservoirs of numerous bioactive compounds with potent biological activity and unique chemical structures. Polyporus grammocephalus has been long used as delicious food by the tribal people of the hills of Darjeeling. Other genus of Polyporus have chemical constituents with potent biological activity. In this communication we report the isolation and characterization of Ergosterol from polyporus grammocephalus Berk. We are the first one to explore Polyporus grammocephalus in terms of its chemical constituents.
