Renal cell carcinoma metastatic to meningioma: Tumor-to-tumor metastasis

Sir, - Intracranial tumor-to-tumor metas-tases occur infrequently and are associated with high morbidity and mortality. They are an uncommon phenomenon first described by Berent in 1902 [1]. Of the types of tumor-to-tumor metastases described, lung cancer is the most frequent donor tumor and renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most common host tumor [2]. Metastases to intracranial lesions have been described, with meningio-mas the most frequent host neoplasms [3, 4, 5] and breast and lung, tumors the most frequent donor neoplasms [5, 6]. Meningiomas are hypothesized to serve as frequent host tumors due to their high vascularity and thus relatively high risk of perfusion with metastatic disease [7]. RCC metastatic to intra-axial meningioma is exceedingly rare with only 8 cases described in the literature. We present a case of clear cell RCC metastatic to intracranial meningioma with disease progression and a review of the literature.
