摘要

The friction-induced vibration between two metallic surfaces, one cast iron and the other steel, was experimentally investigated in this paper. The experiment works were conducted using a pin-on-disk machine with the contact surfaces either under dry or in lubricated conditions. The functional dependence of friction and vibration on the applied normal load in the high sliding contact was examined. The results show that four friction regimes are encountered during load evolution in the case of the smooth disk in dry sliding contact with the pin, and a self-excited vibration is observed as the applied load exceeds a critical value. When the same contact surfaces are lubricated with oil lubricant, the friction is lower and the severe vibration of the loading system is inhibited because of the strong viscous effect of the oil lubricant.
