Congenital hypertrichotic melanoneurocytoma: A congenital hypertrichotic plaque with overlapping neural and nevoid features

Mixed clinical and histopathological features point to the possibility of dual lineage differentiation within a single tumor. Using lineage-specific immunohistochemical markers, even a subtle divergence in cell lineage can be demonstrated. We have identified two patients with congenital facial hypertrichotic plaques showing clinical and histopathological features of both a congenital melano-cytic nevus and neurofibroma. These lesions do not fit into the current classification of either neural or melanocytic hamartornatous tumors.
